Applications
· Accessible hospital toilet stalls — corner mounting provides sit-to-stand (vertical arm) and stability (horizontal arm) support from a single installation; preferred where wall space beside the toilet is limited
· Nursing home WC rooms — comprehensive single-bar support for residents with moderate mobility impairment
· Accessible residential WC conversion — one installation provides the equivalent function of two separate bars for aging-in-place home modifications
Installation Steps
1. Position the L-bar in the corner beside the toilet — the horizontal arm should run along the side wall; the vertical arm should rise from the corner toward the ceiling.
2. Standard mounting: horizontal arm at 840mm to the top of the bar; vertical arm starting from approximately 700mm. Confirm measurements per ADA or local code requirements.
3. The L-bar requires secure fixing to both the side wall and the rear wall (or corner post). Confirm both walls have structural substrate at the fixing positions.
4. Mark flange positions on both wall surfaces. Drill and anchor per standard procedure.
5. Mount flanges and fit the L-bar as per manufacturer's installation guide.
6. Apply load test to both the horizontal and vertical arms independently.
FAQ
Q: Does an L-shaped bar replace both a rear wall bar and a side wall bar in a toilet cubicle?
A: An L-shaped bar mounted in the corner covers both the side wall (horizontal arm) and the rear transition area (vertical arm). However, in a fully ADA-compliant accessible toilet stall, a rear wall bar (typically 36 inches / 914mm minimum length) is also required in addition to the side bar. The GB-004 L-bar is typically used where a corner-mounted solution is preferred, or where the design specifies a combined vertical-horizontal support. Confirm your project's specific ADA layout requirements before specifying.
