Applications
· High-traffic hospital main corridors — emergency access corridors, main hospital thoroughfares with continuous equipment movement
· Hospital bed transit routes — corridors regularly used for patient bed movement between departments
· Accident and emergency department corridors — high-frequency mixed traffic of trolleys, wheelchairs and ambulant patients
· Rehabilitation center walking corridors — pipe grip rail provides ergonomic support for patients rebuilding ambulation strength
· Nursing home corridors with high equipment traffic — kitchen trolley routes, laundry routes and patient transport corridors
· OEM and specification projects — where a custom aluminum thickness or Pantone color specification is required
Installation Steps
1. Determine mounting height — standard clinical specification is 850–900mm from finished floor to top of handrail. Confirm the specified height with your facility's design team or accessibility consultant before marking.
2. Mark the bracket positions along the corridor wall at the determined height. Standard bracket spacing is 500–600mm for clinical corridor use; 400–500mm for stairwell installations where dynamic loading is higher.
3. Locate structural substrate — confirm that all fixing positions have solid wall substrate (masonry, concrete or timber stud) behind the wall finish. Do not fix brackets to plasterboard alone without structural backing.
4. Drill pilot holes at each marked bracket position using an appropriate masonry or timber drill bit for your wall substrate. Clean drilling dust from each hole.
5. Insert wall anchors appropriate for your substrate type (stainless steel anchors for wet areas, standard expansion anchors for dry areas).
6. Mount the ABS wall brackets using the supplied stainless steel screws. Use a spirit level to confirm all brackets are at the same height across the installation run before final tightening.
7. Slide the aluminum retainer onto the mounted brackets. For continuous runs, butt-join sections with the supplied aluminum joining connectors.
8. Fit the PVC/vinyl cover over the aluminum retainer. The cover clips onto the retainer and snaps securely into position along the full length.
9. Fit ABS end caps and corner fittings at the ends of each run and at wall corners. End caps should be pressed firmly until they click into the retainer profile.
10. Apply a firm lateral and downward load to the installed handrail at multiple points to confirm secure fixing before the corridor is returned to use.
· The rubber anti-shock strip is pre-installed between the PVC cover and the aluminum retainer. Check that the rubber strip is fully seated along the full length before fitting the PVC cover in step 8.
· The arched lower bumper section of the HR-159 profile extends further from the wall than standard flat-profile handrails. Ensure wall bracket projection depth is compatible with the HR-159 profile depth when ordering brackets.
· For OEM projects with custom aluminum thickness (1.8mm), confirm bracket specification with our technical team before installation — 1.8mm retainer requires the heavy-duty bracket option.
Product Advantages
· Noise reduction — rubber anti-shock strip absorbs equipment collision energy and reduces the impact sound transmitted through the wall; directly improves acoustic environment in adjacent patient areas
· Three-layer protection — PVC surface + rubber strip + aluminum retainer provides redundant protection layers; wall surface is protected even if the PVC cover sustains minor surface damage
· OEM flexibility — the widest OEM customisation range in the HR Series; suitable for specification-driven procurement projects with custom material thickness, color and length requirements
FAQ
Q: What is the rubber anti-shock strip and what does it do?
A: The rubber anti-shock strip is a continuous rubber extrusion fitted inside the HR-159 profile between the outer PVC cover and the aluminum retainer. When a wheelchair, trolley or hospital bed strikes the handrail, the rubber strip absorbs a portion of the impact energy before it is transmitted to the aluminum retainer and then to the wall structure. This reduces peak impact force on the wall fixings, reduces noise from equipment strikes, and extends the service life of both the wall surface and the handrail mounting.
Q: Is HR-159 suitable for outdoor or semi-outdoor corridor applications?
A: The HR-159 with aluminum retainer and antibacterial PVC cover is suitable for sheltered outdoor corridor applications (covered walkways, covered connection corridors). For fully exposed outdoor applications, please contact us to confirm the appropriate specification for your climate and exposure conditions.
Q: Can I specify the HR-159 in a custom color not in the standard 22-color range?
A: Yes. Pantone custom color matching is available for the HR-159 on project orders. Provide your required Pantone or RAL reference when enquiring, and we will confirm the available lead time for custom color production.
