HR-140 Hospital Handrail | 140mm PVC Aluminum Wall Rail for Healthcare Corridors
The HR-140 is Jincheng's most widely exported hospital handrail model. The 140mm body width makes it the benchmark specification for hospital corridor handrail systems — wide enough to provide meaningful wall protection against wheelchair, trolley and equipment impact, while compact enough to install in standard corridor widths without reducing clear passage width below the minimum required for patient bed transit.![]()
Construction
The HR-140 uses a two-component construction: an extruded 6063-T5 aluminum alloy core provides the structural load capacity and the mechanical fixing channel for wall brackets; a PVC vinyl outer sleeve clips over the aluminum core and provides the gripping surface and wall protection body that faces the corridor.
The PVC sleeve is the clinical surface — the element that patient hands contact and that corridor equipment impacts. It is non-porous, smooth, and formulated for compatibility with hospital-grade disinfectants including sodium hypochlorite (bleach), quaternary ammonium compounds, and hydrogen peroxide formulations used in standard and terminal hospital cleaning protocols.

Compliance
The HR-140 is designed to comply with:
- ADA Standards for Accessible Design, Section 505 (grip diameter 32–51mm ✓, wall clearance ≥38mm ✓)
- EN ISO 21542:2021 (installation height target 900mm, wall clearance ≥45mm ✓)
- AS 1428.1:2009 (grip diameter 30–50mm ✓)
- BS 8300:2018 (grip diameter and wall clearance ✓)
System components
The HR-140 is supplied as a complete system. All components share the same PVC color and profile family:
- HR-140 straight sections (3000mm standard)
- Inside corner elbow 90° (HR-140-IC)
- Outside corner elbow 90° (HR-140-OC)
- End caps (left and right)
- Wall brackets (ABS, spaced at 600–800mm centres)
- Joiner sleeves (for section-to-section joints in long runs)
Typical applications
The HR-140 is specified for:
- General ward corridors (both sides, 900mm installation height)
- Outpatient department corridors
- Rehabilitation centre corridors
- Nursing home corridors
- School corridors with accessibility requirements
- Public building corridors where ADA or equivalent compliance is required
For corridors where a wider wall protection body is required (high trolley and bed transit areas), the HR-159 or HR-200 provide wider profiles. For corridors where a narrower profile is preferred, the HR-089 is available.
Installation
1. Mark bracket positions at 600–800mm centres along the full corridor run, at the required installation height (bracket centreline typically 780–800mm from FFL for a 900mm grip height)
2. Drill masonry holes at marked positions using a hammer drill with masonry bit
3. Insert masonry anchors and fix brackets with stainless steel screws
4. Mark and cut all straight sections to length (allow for corner elbows at junctions)
5. Slide the PVC sleeve onto the aluminum core sections
6. Click the assembled sections onto the installed wall brackets
7. Install corner elbows at all direction changes
8. Cap all open ends with the appropriate end cap
FAQ
Q:What is the difference between HR-140 and HR-143?
A:he HR-143 is 3mm wider (143mm vs 140mm) and incorporates a dual-function design: the body profile is deeper, providing a combined handrail grip and wall guard function in a single installation. For corridors where both handrail and wall guard are required but space or budget is limited, the HR-143 provides both in one product.
Q:Can HR-140 sections be cut to non-standard lengths on site?
A:Yes. The aluminum core is cut with a standard metal hacksaw or circular saw with metal blade. The PVC sleeve is cut with the same tool or with a sharp utility knife. Cut ends should always be finished with the appropriate end cap.
Q:What is the maximum single-run length for HR-140 without an intermediate joint?
A:There is no structural maximum. Practical installation typically uses 3m sections joined at bracket positions. For very long straight runs, expansion joints should be considered in environments with significant temperature variation (>30°C seasonal range).
