Carborundum Insert Tactile Bar

The Carborundum Insert Tactile Bar uses silicon carbide (carborundum) abrasive granules bonded into the bar surface, providing the maximum wet-condition anti-slip performance of all directional guidance bar finishes. It is the outdoor counterpart to the carborundum insert tactile stud — together, they create a complete carborundum anti-slip TGSI system for external, exposed and high-risk environments.

Specified for external station platforms, exposed pedestrian ramps, waterfront concourses and any outdoor directional guidance path where wet and frosty conditions require the highest available level of slip resistance in the guidance path surface itself.

Product Details

Product Features

· Silicon carbide (carborundum) abrasive insert bonded into bar face — maximum outdoor anti-slip performance
· SUS304 or SUS316L stainless steel base
· One-piece stamping with bonded abrasive surface
· Highest anti-slip rating in the bar range — silicon carbide maintains grip under rain, frost, oil and contaminated conditions
· Abrasive particles embedded in bar face — grip is retained as surface wears; long-term performance advantage over grooved surfaces
· Flush embedded installation
· Recommended for fully exposed outdoor and industrial guidance path applications
· Pairs with carborundum insert tactile stud for a complete maximum-grip outdoor TGSI system

Applications

· Open railway and metro platform guidance paths — fully exposed outdoor guidance paths on platform surfaces
· External pedestrian routes in high-rainfall regions — exposed footpath guidance paths where surface water is a continuous slip risk
· Port and waterfront concourse guidance paths — SUS316L + carborundum for marine environments
· Industrial facility and warehouse pedestrian guidance routes — environments with contamination risk from oil, grease or chemical splash
· Civic plazas and outdoor public space guidance paths — exposed concrete guidance paths in high-footfall outdoor pedestrian precincts
· External guidance paths around sports stadiums and arenas — outdoor crowd movement routes

Product Advantages

· Maximum sustained outdoor grip — carborundum insert provides the highest and longest-lasting anti-slip performance for outdoor guidance paths; surpasses grooved surfaces under real-world contamination conditions
· Complete outdoor TGSI system — used with carborundum insert tactile stud to create a fully matched maximum-grip outdoor warning + guidance installation

FAQ

Q: Does the carborundum surface wear away over time?
A: The carborundum abrasive particles are bonded into the bar surface. As the very top of each particle wears from foot traffic, fresh abrasive material is exposed below, maintaining grip. Under normal pedestrian foot traffic, carborundum surfaces maintain effective anti-slip performance for many years. The wear rate depends on traffic volume and footwear type — sharp-soled industrial footwear wears abrasive surfaces faster than rubber-soled shoes.

Q: Is carborundum insert compatible with outdoor floor cleaning machines?
A: Yes. The bonded silicon carbide surface is chemically inert and highly abrasion-resistant. It is compatible with rotary floor scrubbers, pressure washing and standard commercial cleaning agents. Avoid sustained high-pressure water jetting directly onto the surface, which can eventually loosen the abrasive bond.
